>> STSW CONSENSUS PROJECT - Making our voice heard
You Asked, We Heard, You Volunteered and We are moving ahead!
At last year's Conference, the Board held a Retreat to revisit our mission and goals for the Society. One of the themes that came through was the need for a Consensus Statement that would outline best practices in transplant candidacy criteria and interventions. We put out a call for volunteers and more than 40 people came forward, including many who offered to serve in leadership roles!
We have focus groups on mental health, substance use, support, financial vulnerability, discharge planning/housing, compliance and health literacy. They are starting with synthesizing the work that has already been done in this space and identifying gaps in the research.
In late summer, we plan to send out a survey to Transplant and MCS Social Workers. We plan to share this information widely through the larger transplant community via articles, posters and abstracts.
Much of the literature about "psychosocial" factors in transplantation does not include our voice, perspective, experience and expertise. We aim to change that!
