Hosts

This year, the conference is hosted by several of Arizona’s highly rated transplant centers including Mayo Clinic, Banner University Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The program is designed to cover a wide range of topics of general interest to transplant social workers.

Preconference

For the first time, STSW will offer a Preconference that will allow in-depth coverage of topics related to our work in transplant.  The Preconference will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, beginning at 1:30pm. Additional information coming soon….

Program Highlights

The conference keynote presentation features an innovative transplant physician, Dr. David Lott.  He will discuss the future of transplantation and his work with larynx transplants. In addition, we are excited to feature Dr. Walia, transplant director at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  His session will focus on ethical dilemmas in transplanting the aging population.  Dr. Julie Osborn, Phoenix Children’s Hospital resident physician, will discuss the lifelong journey of a pediatric liver transplant patient. This year’s conference will offer  sessions covering specialties such as pediatric transplant, heart and lung transplant, mechanical circulatory support, living donors, and abdominal transplant, as well as timely topics including diagnosis and treatment of substance use, ethics, and palliative care.

Networking/Socializing

Join us in reuniting with friends and meeting new STSW conference attendees Tuesday evening at the welcome reception and poster session. Posters will highlight research conducted by some of our STSW members and other transplant colleagues. Enjoy appetizers, drinks and entertainment at our Welcome Fiesta the night before the conference begins!

The three-day conference will provide you with opportunities to network during meals, breaks and in the evenings. The first night of the conference is our annual celebration. This is a time to spend with conference attendees and enjoy dinner, entertainment and the culture of Arizona. Group dinners will be available the last night of the conference. You will be able to sign up to join a group and we will assist in making dinner reservations.

Parking & Transportation

The Scottsdale Plaza Resort offers free self-parking to guests in a convenient lot right outside of the hotel.

The Sky Harbor International Airport is located a short distance from the Scottsdale Plaza Resort. Scottsdale Plaza Resort does not offer airport transportation.  The estimated cost of a taxi ride from Sky Harbor Airport to Scottsdale Plaza is $40 and Uber is approximately $25.
